Writing

I write to figure out what I think.

Sometimes an idea begins in a therapy room. Sometimes it comes from something I have taught, researched, built, questioned, lived through, or simply cannot stop thinking about.

This is where I follow those ideas a little further.

Research shows up here too, but usually in conversation with the question rather than as the whole point of the piece.

The questions

I tend to write about the things underneath the things.

Who is carrying what?

How did a role become yours when nobody remembers assigning it?

What happens when a belief, career, relationship, or version of yourself no longer fits?

What do families inherit without realizing they inherited it?

What does fairness actually look like when two people experience the same household differently?

And once you see a pattern clearly, what do you want to do with what you know?

These questions move through much of my work, whether I am thinking about relationships, belief, family, work, identity, wellbeing, or the systems surrounding everyday life.

What I keep returning to

Some questions follow me from one subject to another.

01

Relationships & the lives we build

Love is part of a relationship. So are labor, expectations, money, family, responsibility, resentment, care, rest, sex, belief, ambition, and all the things two people thought they understood without ever actually discussing them.

This is where I write about relationships, household labor, mental load, fairness, family roles, partnership, and the lives people build together.

02

Belief, identity & belonging

Belief is rarely only about belief.

It can be connected to family, culture, morality, community, memory, identity, partnership, parenting, and the question of where you belong when something you once accepted begins to change.

This is where I write about religion, deconstruction, meaning, belonging, inherited ideas, and what happens when certainty shifts.

03

Work, ambition & reinvention

We are told to choose paths long before we know who we will become.

Sometimes the question is how to succeed. Sometimes it is whether the version of success you have been pursuing still belongs to you.

This is where I write about work, education, career tunnel vision, ambition, identity, transition, and beginning again without pretending the years before it were wasted.

04

Ways of being well

Wellbeing is bigger than symptoms.

I am interested in the relationships among mind, body, environment, attention, culture, neurodivergence, rest, nature, meaning, and the conditions of everyday life.

This is where I think about holistic wellbeing, neurodivergence, nature, movement, and the different ways people learn to live with themselves more intentionally.

Featured writing

Things I have been thinking about lately.

The writing is coming.

I am building this collection slowly, with essays and reflections I want to have somewhere permanent.

Research, but human

I like knowing what the research says. I also want to know what it means.

I have spent much of my life reading, researching, teaching, and asking questions for a living.

That shows up in my writing.

You may find research here from psychology, family studies, sociology, religion, education, philosophy, or whatever field helps me understand the question I am following.

But I am less interested in stacking citations than I am in making ideas useful.

Research can give us language for something we have noticed, complicate what we thought we knew, or show us that an experience we assumed was personal is connected to something much larger.

The letter

Some thoughts belong in your inbox.

The essays here are the library.

The letter is where I can be a little more immediate: an observation, a question, something I have been reading, an idea that is still forming, or a thread I want to follow with you.

Coming soon.

The work behind the writing

The ideas do not stay on the page.

Some of what I write about also shows up in my therapy work, teaching, speaking, research, and the things I build.
